United States / United Kingdom: Marriott launched a pilot offer allowing customers to book rentals on Homes & Villas by Marriott International [HVMI] can also enjoy the amenities of nearby Marriott Bonvoy hotels.
The offer will only be available at three destinations: Monterey, California, United States; London, UK; and Punta Mita, Mexico. It will run from October 4 to December 31 and if the pilot is successful, additional hotels may participate in the program.
Some of the hotels already on the program include the Monetary Marriott, the St. Pancras Renaissance Hotel London, and the St. Regis Punta Mita Resort. Each hotel can offer selected offers to HVMI customers.
For example, the executive chef of a Monterey Marriott will be on hand to create and deliver an exclusive dining experience in the home’s rental property. HVMI customers will also receive discounts on valet parking and hotel meals.
Customers who use the offer during the pilot period will be able to earn Marriott Bonvoy points to use for future stays or experiences at hotels and house rentals.
According to reports, HVMI increased its inventory to eight times its launch size in the first 20 months, helped by an aggressive listing campaign for property management partners. Meanwhile, Skift claimed that the platform prevents some managers from working with hotel competitors such as Hyatt and Hilton.
Prior to launching Homes & Villas in 2019, Marriott’s original roommate business was a pilot program a year earlier, known as Tribute Portfolio Homes.
The house-sharing pilot project, which included Paris, Rome, Lisbon and London, allowed travelers to choose from over 340 properties in four European markets with the ability to earn and redeem points on the award-winning loyalty platform by Marriott, including Marriott Rewards and Starwood Preferred Guest [SPG].
It followed a five-month pilot project earlier that year in collaboration with the now defunct London property management company Hostmaker.
